Can all tables starting with _ be deleted safely?

Hello,
I just want to verify this. I believe it to be the case, but better to verify before doing it
In my applications, there always seems to be tables that start with __ . And many of them don't seem to go away, although it is very old data. I am assuming I can safely delete these tables (I assume they are temporary tables used in creating various reports etc).
