I wonder if it is possible to upload images to a directory in stead of a tablefield?
If someone has worked this out can you please explain.

you have to integrate your own or 3-rd Party solutions for file upload and brows.
Search google for 'ajax file upload', 'ajax file browser' etc. ..play around with them and the possibilities are endless.
I like Elfinder, and it's easy to integrate with nubuilder
