Nope, COMPLETELY lost again

Unread post by MikeRodent »

Having managed to create a form which does actually list the companies, I started to try to create an edit screen.

This starts at p. 35 in the User guide "Steps to add Objects to an Edit Screen".

When I click the button "Forms" this time I do NOT get the display shown in figure 42: "organizations" is not written in the green box, and there is no "Add" button or "Print" button.

Am I meant to be creating a completely new form, with two tabs? Or modifying the first form I created? It doesn't say. And as I say, the "Add" button is missing.

Sorry, but this is completely HORRENDOUS. Your User Guide does not correspond to the reality which a newbie wishing to learn sees! You need to sit down and rewrite EVERYTHING to make them MUCH MUCH CLEARER. It doesn't matter how brilliant you guys are at coding, if your documentation is so appalling that it is massively misleading and confusing.

The green box is a search field. You have to type "oraganizations" first and then click on the "Search" button.

Thanks... OK, so I do that.

I'm not being deliberately obtuse here, I just really don't understand:

On p. 36, am I creating a NEW form... or editing the existing form? (The existing form has tab "Main" - the one being talked about on p. 36 has tabs "Details" and "Notes").

At the bottom of p. 37, there are 4 instructions: when I click the "Add" button I get a completely blank, grey form. When I choose "Arrange objects" there is nothing listed under "Object Tab Order".

Also, the 4th instruction here is only possible when I first log on: only on first logging on is the "Add" button actually showing: most of the time it is absent.

There are no instructions at all (as far as I can see) to say how to put the fields in the "Details" tab on p. 37, or how to display the dialog (All, Run, Display, etc.) which you need to configure your individual fields (including "Form Tab", Type, Label, ID, etc.). How do I actually get that dialog to be displayed?

Please can you explain what I'm doing wrong?
